Hygiene and body hair
It is important to properly clean the perianal area after bowel movements. Damp cloths or wipes, warm water only and preferably chemical-free, can be used for this purpose.
A protective cream can then be applied.
Some patients have a small amount of hair in the anal area; this does not affect hygiene.
Others have abundant hair growth, which makes hygiene more difficult.
In this case, hair removal (ideally laser) is recommended.
Some laser hair removal technicians are uncomfortable removing hair from the perianal region.
Removing hair from this area is, however, not that different from removing it from the inguinal area, the prepubic area, the armpits, or any other body surface.
