Local pharmacological treatment – Application method
Catégorie(s):

What NOT to do:
- Apply ointment outside of the anal canal
- Use suppositories (since they mostly act upon the rectum, the portion of the suppository that acts upon the anal canal is very limited)
- Use a rectal applicator such as those available on the market (for the same reasons as indicated above: the product stays in the rectum and does not go into the anal canal)
- The same applies to injectable foam products
How to correctly apply the treatment:
- As needed, sit in a sitz bath for 3 to 5 minutes using warm water to help relax the sphincter. This step is optional and intended more for the acute phase, when the anus is in pain.
- Insert Nifedipine using your finger.
- Using your finger, massage the sphincter for 20 to 30 seconds.
